Can I download GNOME terminal on macOS?

No, there is no way to run GNOME terminal app in macOS or change the built in Terminal.app to GNOME terminal.

There are third party terminal emulator apps such as iTerm2 available for macOS as well with other features.

macOS Terminal.app provides bash as the default shell. If you use a different shell in GNOME and would like the macOS Terminal.app to use it as well, it is possible to do so.

Both macOS Terminal.app and iTerm2.app supports multiple tabs in a single app window, thus enabling the user to run multiple sessions concurrently.

Is there anyway to use iTerm2 customize iTerm2 like Gnome? – Kahn Sep 17 '18 at 21:00

Can I open multiple sessions in one window in iTerm2? – Kahn Sep 17 '18 at 21:01

Nimesh. I’m tempted to delete this. The question needs to be refined as you can see from all the follow on questions. Also, why not run docker or a virtualization to get gnome terminal running. We need to ask Kahn what she or he really wants - detailed requirements. Gimp compiles to macos so gnome terminal could be ported or run under xwindows / X11 perhaps. – bmike Sep 17 '18 at 21:02

  • Do you want to try and salvage your answer or wait for clarification? My guess is the OP has a couple items and will be happy to learn some features are easily reachable if they just dig into iterm or terminal app. – bmike Sep 17 '18 at 21:08
