1. In Gnome using ALT + TAB you get a window manager to navigate to the child windows of Firefox or Google Chrome:

    Gnome window manager

  2. In macOS holding CMD + press TAB gives similar window manager but you cant navigate to the child window's of Firefox or Google chrome:

    macOS app switcher

Is there any similar macOS tool like Gnome's?

I hear https://bahoom.com/hyperswitch but not sure if it's like Gnome. Is there some more similar so that I can pick up the best similar and share the experience.

OSX 10.12.6 with third party app: https://bahoom.com/hyperswitch/get Following is possible.

Couple other application switcher options: Witch, Contexts (This one doesn't have a window preview though). As a bonus, there's a third party Dock replacement called uBar - Has a window preview.

  • @Joonas neither witch nor contexts cannot do window previews. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Actually, it is funny that there is no solution to do such a simple thing on Mac OS

  • @igor, Witch does have window previews. Hyperswitch also has previews, as suggested by the author of this answer. Both of them do the previews a little differently. I think the Mission control feature in mac (formerly: Expose) is part of the reason why this feature isn't on high demand.

  • @Joonas I was wrong indeed. though Witch previews are a little useless, HyperSwitch does it more like Gnome switcher. Just missed an option somehow. Thanks!

  • @Joonas but HyperSwitch misses another useful feature like hiding applications which don't have windows :(
