I have never chosen any alternate skin tone for emojis beyond the default yellow. But for unknown reasons, Apple ask anew approximately every month on macOS and iOS if I wouldn’t rather use some non-yellow color for hands and faces.

There seems to be no solution for this on iOS or iPadOS other than submitting to choose each time when asked. My hope is to find a general solution on all Apple devices.

Is there a way to stop this time-wasting and thought-disrupting annoyance? Thank you.

The question bmike linked to doesn't say you have to pick each time it's asked - it says that it remembers your selection per Emoji.

  • @bmike You edited this question but there's still no evidence that it doesn't remember all skin tones (including "yellow") after the first selection. Testing on my device and most emoji do not prompt me to choose again even if they're yellow.

  • That would be an excellent answer @Ezekiel - I don’t get this monthly either. I only see this when I pick a new emoji after some time has passed so I’m not sure if it’s once per emoji, some random chance after an update, some random chance after last “ask”.

  • This was edited since there is no general solution. We can leave it open, but most people wont try to answer broad questions on how to do something on the watch and on the Mac and on the iPad and on the Apple Vision Pro since the steps to operate each is different. I’ll put up a no answer, maybe someone can show a way where one doesn’t look to be possible.

No, Apple considers this a feature. You will need to follow the steps on each OS to manage this each time you are interrupted with a choice.

Don’t blame the messenger, but that is what was shipped. If that changes, we can all edit in new information or have a more satisfying answer.
