Is there a command like namei for OS X?
Macports has a port of it: https://trac.macports.org/browser/trunk/dports/devel/util-linux/Portfile

Errors using brew to install python3
I have no way to test it as I am not running 10.7 anymore, but the second issue you posted looks like the exact same error and a successful fix was in the comments:
