I am trying to connect an audio device (analog synthesizer) to the input of my 13-inch Mid-2012 Macbook Pro running OS X Mavericks 10.9.3. … However, my screen looks like this even when my device is plugged in:

What's making this sound on my Mac? (DeliveryCompleted.aiff)
This sound most likely has nothing to do with Xcode. It is a standard sound used throughout OS X for many purposes, including installer notifications. It is also a ringtone on iOS.

This sounds like the sound Skype makes for a Contact Available notification.
