Spotlight, infinite indexing, secondary drives, and NAS
to turn indexing off:
thomas$ sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/nfs-spotlight/

/Volumes/nfs-spotlight:
Indexing disabled.
...or even better disable spotlight activities:
thomas$ sudo mdutil … -d /Volumes/nfs-spotlight/
