I'd like to be able to test automated disabling of TimeMachine asking to use a new drive.
It's also made me curious about how macOS/OSX identifies "New Disks" vs ones it's seen before, and what else happens when a new drive is installed.
It would be ideal if on a lab computer I could reset to a state before the drive was installed, rather than wipe and reinstall the OS.
- Are device IDs stored somewhere permanently?
- Does spotlight start indexing immediately?
- Where else might the drive show up?
