SQL Developer will not start after Monterey upgrade

There does not appear to be any error message or indication of failure.

I edited the product.conf file for SQL developer.
I added the following line: SetJavahome /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-17.0.1.jdk/Contents/Home/

I had installed that version of Java previously and verified that directory exist.

Previously, after the Monterey upgrade SQLDeveloper was starting and then crashing. It was apparently using the jdk-1.8.0_201.jdk However, when I move that folder out of the JavaVirtualMachines folder the current behavior of not even launching is observed. I can re-create the crashing behavior by moving the jdk-1.8.0_201.jdk back into its original place in the JavaVirtualMachines folder.

It appears as if SQLDeveloper is ignoring its product.conf file. The product.conf file I have modified is located in Users//.sqldeveloper/21.4.1/

(Not that it should have mattered but also added SetJavahome /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-17.0.1.jdk/Contents/Home to the product.conf in the 18.4.0 folder. The old version of SQLDeveloper behaves in the same way).

  • Found somewhat of a workaround from other that allows me to launch from terminal, but only from terminal cd /Applications/SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/resources/sqldeveloper zsh sqldeveloper.sh
