Can’t connect to WiFi, running ifconfig up and network setup on do not work

Question

I am unable to restart my mac’s WiFi. This is a long term problem that has been happening for years. The solution is to restart my Mac, but I can’t do that now or I will lose data that can’t be saved. I’ve tried restarting the WiFi in all the conventional ways, I’ve also tried running these:

sudo ifconfig en0 up
network setup -setairportpower en0 on

I’ve also tried turning it off with both commands first, and I’ve tried e0, e1, and e2. Yet, whenever I run ifconfig -u en0, I always get status: inactive
