When I was setting up my Mac, it prompted me to select a profile picture from one of the defaults to use for my user account.

However, I would like to use my profile picture from my Apple ID as the profile picture for my user account on my Mac, and keep it in sync. I'm already signed in to my Apple ID on my user account.

How can I do that, if possible?

There is no periodic sync, so you’ll have to use the macOS Monterey manual sync process:

  • by default for new user accounts,
  • and for existing user accounts, change your profile picture in System Preferences → Users & Groups and iCloud will follow suit.

This answer does not address the OP's scenario: they want to have the macOS account photo sync with the photo from iCloud and stay in sync, not the other way round. Commented Nov 4, 2021 at 20:23
  • Hi @RobGilliam that because there isn’t a continuing sync. Ive edited this, so other know they can edit if they find it wrong or put up a new answer if they develop a service or tool to automate this.

@bmike this is not an answer to the OP's question, hence the downvote. Your edits have not made this an answer to the question. Automating the wrong process would not be a reason for adding a new answer. Commented May 19 at 7:40
