I'm on Catalina 10.15.7 with a 13" 2019 MacBook Pro. Upon wake, I now always see the beach ball of death. There is never anything in "Spin Reports" under console. Lots of these messages: Service exited due to SIGKILL | sent by mds[179] - 239 since wake. However these continue throughout the day.

I've noticed a few times there is a crash of a piece of software - SACSrv or com.apple.WebKit.WebContent. But many times there is no correlation.

  • The spinning beachball is just a wait condition and can happen in a "non-failure" scenario like waiting for an attached volume to respond. For example, I have a RAID array attached via Thunderbolt that I configured to sleep - when I wake it after a period of inactivity, I get the beach ball as I hear the drives spin up. Do you have any attached devices/mounts/shares etc.? Even a network share taking a few moments to respond to cause a beach ball.... – Allan Nov 15 '20 at 19:08
