I noticed that my Macbook Pro 2015 was making a fan noise in the morning, even though the lid was closed and it had been put to sleep 10 hours ago.

When I looked at system.log in the Console, it's full of these errors (added line breaks for readability):

com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.xpc.launchd.domain.pid.simctl.31402):
Could not resolve origin of domain. XPC services in this domain's bundle
will not be bootstrapped: error = 107: Malformed bundle, taint = missing executable

More keep coming in all the time, roughly one more every 3 seconds.

What is simctl, and what does this error mean? I didn't find much info about this exact error message when googling.
