When I initially connect my headphones to my computer, the audio codec used is AAC (as found by option+clicking on Bluetooth Menu Bar Item, and hovering over the bluetooth headphones while a song is playing). If I immediately turn off and on the headphones, the AAC connection remains. If, however, the headphones or the computer sleep, upon reconnection, the audio codec changes to SBC. I can't figure out a way to renew the AAC codec without removing entirely the headphones from bluetooth device list and then reconnecting the device. Is there anything I can do to stop the codec from downgrading permanently?

Headphones (Marmitek's Boomboom 577) have AAC, aptX, and aptX Low Latency.
