I wanted to hide the "Recent Items" list in the system menu. I literally never use it, and every time my mouse moves over it it causes the system to freeze for a few seconds while the list loads. So I went to System Preferences > General > Recent items and set it to None.

However, after I disabled it, the next time I loaded Xcode I found it was no longer remembering my recent projects. As far as I can tell, it's directly tied to the same system setting.

Is there any way to disable the former without disabling the latter? I'd prefer to do it natively if possible, or at least avoid installing anything that causes major interface changes.

  • I'd be more inclined to try find the reason it's slow to load. It maybe has a fresh look first time after boot [can't test that right now] but mine fills in a blink, even though I'm pretty sure I haven't opened it since last boot [I almost never do]. – Tetsujin Sep 13 at 19:32
