I have a Mac mini (2018) running macOS 10.14.6. When the screen saver turns on, it doesn't turn off until the computer goes to sleep. If I move the mouse or type keys, I hear a "beep" indicating that the keypresses are going somewhere but the screen saver isn't turning off.

So with my old keyboard, I had a sleep button on it. If I click that button and let the computer sleep, then press a key, the computer wakes up and the screen saver is over.

So I have a work-around with the new keyboard and have set up a keyboard short cut to turn on the sleep when I do a shift-F17. But I would rather this problem just not exist. I've looked online and nobody seems to have a similar program. So how should I debug this? What should I look at to figure out why screen savers won't exit?

Things I've tried:

  • Changing the screen saver
  • Resetting parameter RAM
  • Removing startups.

Things I haven't tried:

  • Full OS reinstall.

Any suggestions?
