My question is the same as this one from 5 years ago. I have an NTFS external hard drive and certain files on it are greyed out and can't be opened until I run certain commands on the command line.

SetFile -c "" -t "" path/to/file

Except, everytime I unplug and remount the HDD, I have to repeat the process again. In the last 5 years, has there been any changes so that I can get a permanent solution to my problem?

  • Do you have any NTFS write-enabler installed? The linked question also mentions you need that. – Tetsujin Aug 18 at 10:18
