mounted a share with mount_smbfs //srv/myShare ~/Desktop/myDir.

  • According to Shell, this folder is ~/Desktop/myDir
  • According to Finder, this folder is ~/Desktop/myShare.

How does Finder do this? How can I alter this behavior?

This is not a new issue, and has been asked here before. Each question has or has not found a solution based on their specific case. None of the discussions I've come across elaborate on How Finder changes these display names and where it gets them. Are they stored in a plist? Generated once and kept in memory? Is it even finder that sets these or rather mount?

Please help me shed some light on this by sharing what you know.. Thank you
