So I‘m trying to install Ubuntu for Dual Boot on my MacBook Pro. I‘m running macOS 10.14 with APFS, created a new partition formatted as FAT32. Created bootable USB stick with Etcher and so forth. So far so good.

However, when I now boot into EFI boot using Option during startup, I select install Ubuntu. This is where things stop working. My keyboard and trackpad are not working, connecting an external keyboard works but then when continue through the installation process, Ubuntu is trying to install on the USB stick (which is obviously not what I want) and there's no other option.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

I'm thinking that it may be a driver issue (not a regular Linux user here...) If the installer sees only the install media and not the internal drive then it is likely missing the necessary drivers to operate the the disk subsystem which has your partitioned SSD/HD. – Steve Chambers Apr 22 at 18:22
