I'm new to Karabiner and have just set it up, so please excuse my ignorance. I can successfully arrange a few "complex" modifications within the json file. What I want is something rather "basic," though I'm not sure how to go about it, or if it's possible.

In a perfect world, I can press "Ctrl+Cmd+right_arrow" and a beautiful

would pop up. Or "Ctrl+Cmd+d" would output the degree symbol °

You get the idea. Karabiner is great at accepting those inputs, but I'm not sure how to get outputs like that.

It'd be nice to have the same ability with Greek characters, although switching keyboards is not a terrible workaround to type α, β, ψ, etc.

Is it possible to map keys in karabiner to non-standard characters?

  • Dd you check the help in Karabiner? – Solar Mike Apr 9 at 2:41
  • I think more likely you want to use an application like Typinator for this, vs re-defining the keyboard. – Marc Wilson Apr 9 at 2:55

Lot easier to make a custom layout with Ukelele, use option and option plus shift instead of cmd/ctrl Http://scripts.sil.org/ukelele – Tom Gewecke Apr 9 at 4:19
  • Degree is already at option-shift 8 on US keyboard – Tom Gewecke Apr 9 at 4:43
  • @TomGewecke Apart from this link being dead, I found another older version of ukelele which crashes every time I try to open it. Seems to lack compatibility with Mojave or something. Although I'm ecstatic about °°°°°° – chompion Apr 9 at 13:08
