Ever since upgrading to the latest version of Mojave[10.14.3], my MacBook Air (MBA) (13-inch, 2017) refuses to sleep with the lid down in the default settings on battery power. This leads to severe battery drainage along with the MBA getting really hot in the backpack while carrying. Numerous tries with clearing the SMC, resetting to the default battery setting, are not helping.

I have tried to look into the reason why this is occurring.

Entering pmset -g assertions yields
