Today I was listening music with my AirPods through my iPhone XR, using Google Play Music.

My wife sent me a "Walkie-Talkie" audio message, the music paused automatically, the message has been reproduced through the AirPods, and after that, silence.

I tried to resume the music using my Apple Watch, but nothing happened, so I tried to press "play" from my iPhone lock-screen, and the music started playing from the iPhone speakers.

I checked if the AirPods were still in use on the iPhone, both looking at the top info bar (the one where the little headphones icon is shown) and in the bluetooth settings page. They resulted "connected".

I tried to disconnect them and connect them again, but it didn't help. I even tried to turn the bluetooth off and on again, still nothing.

The only solution I found was to put the Apple Watch in airplane mode, and then turn airplane mode off.

What happened? How do I make sure this doesn't happen again in the future?
