2015 iMac, non-retina, OS 10.13, to remedy bad data transfer, SSD can be totally erased

external HDD OS 10.14, 200GB total used, this disk was "professionally" replaced yesterday with the SSD but data transfer went bad. Ideally, functioning & appearance from SSD should be like from HDD, just faster

  • 😳 I'm not sure of the status of your disks. Can you boot from the external drive? Internal drive? Did you get to keep the old external drive? Why didn't you let them sort it out? But they seem incompetent. I'd go slowly. It get an other external drive and back up your internal drive first. Use carbon copy cloner to do the backup and restore. bombich.com – historystamp Feb 10 at 20:04
  • Recovery boot, install MacOS and tell the installer to use the external drive as source? – Thorbjørn Ravn Andersen Feb 10 at 23:35
