My MB Pro Mid-2012 A1278 has a Broadcom AirPort card.

I’ll be brief and just say I have lost a lot of time trying to get this device working on a linux distro I’m running on the MacBook. I can use a USB Dongle to connect to the Internet but I’d really prefer having all my USB ports spare.

Considering that:

a)I don’t mind not having Bluetooth on the card since it’s useless to me and most importantly,

b)I’m not planning on using Mac OS X in the far future

Can I replace the AirPort card of Broadcom with any other 802.11 mini PCIe wireless card, like an Atheros/Intel/Realtek one?

Thank you.
