I've upgraded to Mojave on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015). Now, my external hard drives are not showing up on the desktop nor in Disk Utility. I need to access this work and Time Machine. It still all works on my older laptop. The cable is fine and the hard drive is in excellent shape (MyPassport for Mac).

  • Welcome to StackExchange @Jefferey Trapp. You might want to indicate the problem already in the headline of you question. As is, it is quite generic and probably won't draw much attention to your question about mounting an external hard drive. – greenforest Jan 15 at 8:49
  • Not showing up in Disk Utility is significant. See this answer on how to see if the drives are detected by macOS and verify that they are. What about other USB devices like flash drives, a USB mouse, keyboard, or any adapter; are they recognized? (Trying to verify that your USB port still works) – Allan Jan 15 at 12:29
  • whether drives show up on desktop is configurable in Finder Preferences. – bw_üezi Jan 16 at 6:42
