My Mac hangs up on the boot screen. So I am trying to transfer some files over to an external drive in singe user mode. I have the cp -Pr command to copy the picutures folder over. It is about 300 gb. I have not received any errors, but the command prompt is not back on either. How long would this transfer take ? I cannot make out if it is doing something or just hung up. Thankyou Sr

  • Without more information on the target drive and the connection you are using it's hard to say. You could use ^Z followed by bg to send the copy process into the background and then just run ls on the target drive. – nohillside Jan 11 at 17:04
  • You could copy with r sync that shows progress – Mark Jan 11 at 19:11
