My MacBook Pro 2013 with two graphic cards (suppose that this caused an issue).

I've got an external display - a Dell U2713HM with maximum resolution 2560x1600, but the MacBook shows only 1920x1080. I tried different ways to change this:

  1. DVI to HDMI and DVI to display port adapters
  2. Switch resolutions using Option key
  3. Override the screen EDID configuration
  4. gfxCardStatus

but nothing helped - still 1920x1080 instead of 2560x1600. I checked the same issue with my colleagues laptops- they have just one internal video card - they have no issues.

I would like to switch that extra video card off - but it seems not possible when use external display.

  • Welcome to AskDifferent! It is normal that the secondary GPU takes over when an external screen is connected. This cannot be overridden. A helpful App may be Display Menu. – n1000 Jan 11 at 13:28
