Migration Assistant errors occur while transferring information "Some files... could not be transferred"

Source system:

  • Macbook Air 13" mid-2011
  • macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

Backup drive:

  • QNAP NAS mounted with SMB
  • Time Machine backup

Target system:

  • MacBook Pro 13" without Touch Bar mid-2017
  • macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

After starting the new MacBook Pro, initiated Migration Assistant for the initial configuration, sourced from a Time Machine backup. Everything was selected for transfer. After initiating the transfer, and error was displayed with dozens or hundreds of files listed as "could not be transferred". For example:

Some files from "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkextension.necp.plist" could not be transferred
Some files from "/usr/local/share/man" could not be transferred
Some files from "/private/etc/php.ini.default-previous-orig" could not be transferred

Some of the file which are listed above do not appear to be concerning. There were others in the list from /Library which appear to be related to some installed applications.

Why does it happen and what should be done about it?

Are the failed files logged somewhere?
