I had Visual Studio Code app icon in the Dock before, but I can't put it there again. I tried dragging and dropping from the the /Applications folder, but it doesn't land there. Have I accidentally banned Visual Studio Code app from the Dock?

If so, how can I remove that ban? I can add icons for other apps to the Dock just fine. Even when I have Visual Studio Code open, it does not show in the Dock.

How do I resolve the issue?

  • Welcome to Ask Different :) Try restring the Dock by running killall Dock in the Terminal. – Nimesh Neema Dec 5 '18 at 9:55
  • @NimeshNeema that worked :D Plz make it as an answer and I'll mark it as correct! Thanks! – Brainmaniac Dec 5 '18 at 10:01

Try by relaunching the Dock by running the following command in Terminal:

killall Dock

After re-launch, you should be able to see and add the Visual Studio Code app icon in the macOS Dock.

  • Yes, basic troubleshooting steps are usually: 1. Killall the dock 2. Killall the Finder 3. Reboot – Manchineel Dec 5 '18 at 22:29

I did reboot my Mac and it didn't work. Killing the dock as described worked. That is weird. Thank you. – Maxime Jan 15 '19 at 14:13
