I have my setting to 'Automatic login' disabled. The 10.14.1 software update, ended up in the desktop, without going through the locked password screen. Since this is the first update through the System Preferences (and not the AppStore), it's hard to tell if this is by design. (For start, I can't tell if it's only me.)

Assuming it's by design, it makes no sense to allow for automatic login in "some cases".

At this point, some questions arise:

  • How safe it is where a restart can auto-login where it is specifically disabled?
  • Was the definition of this setting changed?
  • Could it be that auto-login disabled is in a different 'tier' than 'Require password after x time'? And as such, treated more 'loosely'?
