I've found Is there a faster way to copy time machine files from one disk to another? but that covers different issues.
This one looked interesting, but that is copying the whole drive to another "drive". How to permanently archive Time Machine backup?

I have a time machine drive from an old Mac, and I want to have a single (not with the links, no history) backup to peruse at my leisure. I don't want to restore the whole thing, just the latest. I don't want to use the Time Machine GUI to look at all sorts of junk.
And, I don't want the current Mac to use that drive for TM since it was from a different computer.
