I recently purchased a 2017 Macbook Pro that I frequently run in clamshell mode.

About 25% of the time I connect it to an external display, all my windows are resized for a resolution that I assume must be 600x800 or smaller (see below). I have to imagine this is because there's a moment when the computer is awake and thinks it's not connected to any monitor and so assumes the lowest possible resolution. I did not have this issue with my 2013 MBP.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Maybe it's an issue with my usb-c ports or a dongle?
