First, let me say I'm new to Mac... Just helping a friend with a fried OS by re-installing Mac.

When I do data recovery, I usually load a LiveISO via USB, but since I may be helping them again, I wondered if I could find a way to leave the ISO on there laptop like I do with my Linux VMs.

For example, on my Linux VM's I have the ISO reside on the HD and add a grub-entry for the LiveISO.

I can then use the command grub2-reboot "LiveISO" to reboot directly into the LiveOS without needing a USB.

Is there any way to make this work on Mac? I've debated installing Grub, but I wondered if that would break if they ever upgraded there MacOS, and if I am not around to fix it for them, they would be in a bad spot.
