I have a Mac mini Server Macmini4,1 (A1347) mid 2010 model running Sierra. The ethernet port is not working or the computer doesn't recognize it. I had to take apart the computer to replace the drives. I know the ethernet port is soldered to the board. I think I connected everything when I was putting back together the computer. I don't seem to have AppleKextExcludeList.kext extension listed under Library.

When I go under System Report, I get this message:

This computer does not appear to have any PCI cards installed.

I have tried the following:

  • PRAM reset
  • SMC reset
  • Ran any pending updates
  • Copied AppleKextExcludeList.kext from a known working computer to this Mac mini Server and restarted computer

Nothing seems to work. At this point, I think it is a possible hardware issue. Also, I was not able to get into Diagnostics. I got an error message "Failed to initialized product driver". Regardless, I still have the ethernet port not working AND the fan is running high. The fan running high could be a few factors such as thermal sensors or motherboard is bad or cable defective.

I erased the drive and reinstalled a fresh copy of Sierra. It didn't resolve the ethernet port or the fan running high.

Since I am not able to invoke the Diagnostics, can someone offer me any advice on how I proceed to troubleshoot/resolve this issue?

  • Welcome to Ask Different! :) I've edited your question because the title and most of the information in it really seem to be preparing users for a different question to the one you actually asked at the end. So I've changed the question at end to relate better to the issue and what you've described. This way you're not limiting your responses and may get other solutions to help you. In terms of the ASD you're looking for, please feel free to ask a separate question about that if you'd like. Finally, it may be worth you editing this question to clarify what you've tried to invoke Diagnostics? – Monomeeth Jan 10 '18 at 22:15
