I sync most of my photos taken on my iPhone 7 to my Mac via Photostream, but I still need to physically plug it into the Mac and sync in order to get videos and live photos to import.

After upgrading to iOS 11.0.3, my first import found several hundred "new" photos and proceeded to import them, but named like "IMG_E1234.JPG" (notice the "E": I already had a "IMG_1234.JPG" in the library).

The "E" photos are about 25% smaller than their non-E twins. I notice some slight visual differences in the twin images, as if they were compressed differently.

My question(s): what are these "E" photos? How can I prevent these dups from happening again? Should I keep the "E" photos and delete their non-E twins?
