I bought my Mom a 1st gen for Mothers day. But now I cannot get any apps! Any help would be appreciated. I have no idea where to start.

A first-generation iPad only supports iOS 5. That means it only runs apps that still support iOS 5, which are few and far between.

To download these apps, head to the App Store (the blue icon on the iPad's home screen), and you'll be able to download apps. Either they'll download or give you an error that they're not supported, in which case you can't download them.
