One of my AirPods in my AirPods Pro wasn’t charging recently, so I decided to check out the charging pins in the case. I tried fiddling with them using a toothpick attempting to remove any dust in them. However, I overdid it and one of the charging pins is now stuck inside the case as shown in the following image:-

enter image description here (You can see one charging pin is out and the other is stuck inside)

I am unable to remove it by tapping on the back of the case and I’ve even tried using a magnet to attract it. The AirPods are out of warranty so I’m not really intent on repairing it at an apple store because I’m pretty sure they’ll ask me to replace the entire case. What can I do?

  • I believe Apple will offer a repair part (at your cost) with a new battery and working contacts for any problem identified in these cases. I’d get that quote and price a new part if yours was “missing” before deciding to attempt this disassembly that will likely break the protective case and do more damage to the unit than fix a bent pin.

You need to carefully open the outer casing. It's tricky, but you'll be able to fix it, mine was half-way stuck, and when i opened it i was able to fix it

  • Can you confirm that the pins above are physically damaged? The photo looks like one is corroded and the other missing entirely. If you have any photos to share what the inside looks like that would be useful.
