My mac mini wont Mac Mini won't boot! is. Is it mythe monitor or the macMac?

I just bought aan old mac miniMac Mini to start my ios devdeveloping for iOS. The mac miniMac Mini has a DVI port, so I connected it to my Dell 24" display which has a DVI connection. But it appears that my macMac wont boot. Actually, I dont even know, if it is booting or not. Because because my monitor diddoes not show anything, as it did not get any signal and went to standby mode immediately. My questions are:

  1. Do I have to connect a keyboard and mouse to minithe Mini in order to boot?
  2. Even if I did notdon't connect a keyboard and mouse to minithe Mini, I will I still see something on the monitor, won't I? somethingMaybe like aan error message, telling methat no any keyboard was found.? To make itbe clear, my display works fine with my PC.
  3. I tried with my Microsoft USB keyboard and an IBM USB mouse. But, but I did not see any difference, i.e. nothing could be seen inon the display.
  4. Does itthis mean I have to buy a keyboard and mouse from "Apple"Apple to make it work.?

Can someone help me and give me some hints.? Thanks a lot in advance!
