Sep 23, 2020 at 21:37 | comment | added | bmike♦ | @Redbeard there’s not going to be a good audit to tell if something was deleted from the keychain or wasn’t saved in the first place. Only if it’s there do we have breadcrumbs....
Sep 23, 2020 at 21:30 | comment | added | Redbeard | I had already checked all solutions on the internet and searched through my keychain. I don't remember ever setting a password. Never did a real backup before, this was my first.

Sep 23, 2020 at 20:00 | comment | added | grg♦ | @Tetsujin Thanks added, I didn’t notice I have both and that one is my more recent password, so they probably changed it at some point

Sep 23, 2020 at 19:26 | comment | added | Kelly | Since the backup password "carries forward" onto new phones when you restore backups to them, it's worth checking the Keychain Access app, even if iTunes/Finder doesn't try to autocomplete the password for you. There may be an older device's same backup password stored there. I also have a list of suggestions for trying to remember the password here: deciphertools.com/support/knowledge-base/…
