The only thing that fixed it was . . . wait for it . . . rebooting. The scenario was very confusing to me as in 10 yrs of external drive + MBP, I'd never seen such issues before. | |

The drive isn't really worth saving since I'm going to be installing the games that were stored on the drive onto a new computer, and I'll just do backups on a new SSD, and not save the old ones. I overestimated the severity of the issue to be honest. | |
