Dec 17, 2021 at 6:37 comment added reading_ant If you don't find the path /Library/Desktop Pictures, create one yourself. You can also use the '+' button on the 'Desktop & Screensaver' dialog to add the newly created directory to list of wallpaper paths (i.e. no wait required)
Nov 7, 2021 at 15:11 comment added comfreak Worked for me in 12.0.1 Monterey. Just open Finder, press cmd+shift+G, enter "/Library", press Enter. Then create a new folder called "Destop Pictures" (authenticate to allow this when prompted) and place the heic file in the new folder. Without any reboot it showed up immediately in System Preferences as a dynamic wallpaper in "Apple/Desktop Pictures".
Sep 24, 2021 at 5:08 comment added reading_ant Works on Big Sur 11.6. Make sure you need to CREATE the /Library/Desktop Pictures directory as root yourself by doing the following: sudo mkdir -p "/Library/Desktop Pictures"
Aug 13, 2020 at 19:15 comment added cbloss793 Worked for me in Catalina. It had no problem refreshing after I closed out of the desktop window and re-opened it.
Apr 7, 2020 at 0:46 comment added TemporaryFix I do not have a "Desktop Pictures" folder outside of the system one.
Feb 1, 2020 at 9:08 comment added Mark Mendoza There should be one directory in /System/Library/ and one in /Library. Only the one in /System/Library is under SIP.
Jan 31, 2020 at 9:46 comment added Faisal Arshed Facing the same issue. I'm on Catalina and the "Desktop Pictures" folder is located under /System/Library/, which is protected by SIP so I don't have write access (even as admin) and no way to get write permission. Disabling SIP and then copying the files seems to be the only option (albeit overkill). Thoughts?

Jan 15, 2020 at 0:42 comment added Mark Mendoza You're seeing the bugged overlapping dialogs under Apple/Desktop Pictures as well?
Jan 10, 2020 at 21:53 comment added Gonzalo Garcia I get the same Image as before. It wont let me change to dynamic mode and would look like bugged. If I set the picture it will set it in dark mode (like image at night). I'm suspecting if the dynamic wallpaper file type has changed between OS, do you have a dynamic wallpaper to download that worked for you?
Jan 10, 2020 at 21:07 comment added Mark Mendoza I am on Catalina :) What are you observing?
