Apparently there isI haven't found a solution for Ubuntu on MacBooksgreat solution yet. Here is some information that can help:

  • Apparently there is a solution for Ubuntu on MacBooks.

  • Lab Tick runs on OS X but unfortunately not command-line (nor open source).

  • brightness is free software to control the display brightness.

Lab Tick runs on OS X but unfortunately not command-line (nor open source). This turns off automatic backlight in low light:

defaults write com.apple.BezelServices kDim -bool false

brightness This turns off keyboard illumination when computer is free software to control the display brightness.not used for 1 second:

defaults write com.apple.BezelServices kDimTime -int 1

So unfortunatelyBut ideally I would just turn off the illumination under all circumstances. And I haven't found a CLI solution for that - yet.

This thread looks most promising:brightness is free software to control the display brightness.

"first, to adjust brightness automatically by location on my iBook G4, which had no ambient light sensor, and second, so I could have my laptop turn on the backlight when a long operation finished, providing a quiet form of notification I could use while at a seminar. http://sabi.net/nriley/software/brightness.zip is 4-way universal, 10.5+. I compiled it under 10.6 with:

gcc-4.0 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -arch ppc -arch ppc64 -isysroot \
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk \
-mmacosx-version-min=10.5 -std=c99 -o brightness \
-framework Cocoa -framework DisplayServices \
-F/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks brightness.m

Unfortunately the .zip is a binary, that gives me dyld: Symbol not found: _OBJC_CLASS_$_O3Manager andSo unfortunately I haven't been able to find the sourcefound a CLI solution (brightness.c?)- yet.
