Block Lock vertical resize of the dock in Mac OS X

I can't find anya way to keepmake my dock to resize only resize horizontally when new apps appear there, atm. Currently when one does, the whole dock shrinks vertically and expands horizontally.

Is there any way to keep the change only for horizontal expansionexpand the dock horizontally?
