On Ask Different, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hi all! My name is Gerwin and I'd like to run for moderator. I'm a little late to the party; I was hesitating because I don't have the stellar track record on this site that you might expect from a candidate.

Nevertheless, I'm very enthusiastic:

  • I'm an Apple enthusiast: I own a Mac mini, two MacBooks, two iPhones, two iPads, an Apple TV and an Apple Watch.
  • I'm an Ask Different enthusiast Fanatic.
  • Above all, I'm a moderation enthusiast. I have 1450 helpful flags here (over 16000 across the SE network) and almost 1500 reviews in little over 3 months (I gained the privilege March 24th). Network-wide, I have over 35000 reviews and I participate in Charcoal HQ where we keep Stack Exchange free of spam – Ask Different is one of the main spam targets.

I have quite some experience with moderation tools (including the dupehammer) on other sites in the network, and I have confidence that I can quickly catch up on any knowledge I currently lack about e.g. the canonical questions here.

Oh, and one more thing:

Here are my answers to the questionnaire.

Hi everyone! I'm Jackson, and I'm nominating myself for moderator. I have benefited greatly from this site and people's great answers, and I hope to make it better.

Why me?

  • I'm fairly active, and that activity will only go up from here
  • I will be available throughout the day (and sometimes night) CST
  • I'm a fairly level-headed person
  • I have lots of  products

Why not me?

  • I'm not terribly active on meta, but I hope to be more active
  • I don't have a very high reputation here, but I have been steadily climbing recently.

Here are my answers to the community questions

Hi, I’m George, an avid member of the Ask Different community for over 4 years. I would like to volunteer as a moderator.

A great deal of my time is already spent in review queues; I’m the top reviewer of first and late posts alongside my other contributions. I believe it is very important to provide users with a welcoming experience, as well as maintaining the high quality of content on the site. Expressing ideas clearly is paramount on a site dedicated to helping everyone alongside the original poster of a question.

I’m an active meta participant, providing support and participating in discussions. I keep up-to-date on global meta as I believe keeping up with the latest developments are important in taking action where appropriate.

Having two gold tag badges for popular tags means I am familiar with binding votes. The 10k tools are extremely useful to me in monitoring the site operation from an elevated perspective, thus potentially actioning questions with unusual activity or anonymous feedback anomalies.

I look forward to your questions and wish the best of luck to all the candidates.

My answers to your questions

Hi, I'm Joe (aka Monomeeth) and I'm nominating for one of the moderator positions.

I'm based in Australia and I've been a member here for about 1.5 years. In that time I've fallen in-love with the site (corny I know, but it's also true).

This site is without a doubt the best Q&A site for Apple users anywhere on the planet, and that includes Apple's own Discussion Forums.

So, why am I nominating myself?

Most importantly I feel I can contribute to our continued success and growth. In summary, I'm:

  • committed, energetic and love helping people discover the potential of their Apple products
  • readily available - in fact I've been here every day for the past 300 days
  • active in all aspects of the site and have a passion for user experience and engagement
  • someone with the right temperament and personality for this type of role

Please feel free to read my answers or ask me a question by using @Monomeeth.

Finally, I want to thank all of you for making this site awesome, and I wish all candidates the best.

This election is over.
