comment 10.9.2 What fonts can be deactivated? How?
Thanks, looked good, but: Didn't work. DW failed to provoke automatic activation of Verdana and Tahoma; would not launch until I manually activated them. Then the DW hang reappeared under similar conditions. Could DW be running old font code that doesn't support auto-activation? Then, of course, DW should have been able to tell me what additional font(s) it needed. But didn't. <heavy sigh> Further suggestions?

comment Is there a way to limit external hard-drive random spin-up?
Yes, changing SMARTReporter preferences helped, but I still have random spinups. Strangely, on some days these are rare, on others frequent. Another point: recently I've noticed that the spinning pizza no longer (or more rarely) appears during random spinups. But often, anyway, UI input is still locked out for seconds at at time. They mystery continues...

I found another culprit: I had not noticed that the latest version of SMARTReporter had default settings that spins up external USB HDDs every 10min to check their status. In my case the single external HDD isn't even S.M.A.R.T-capable, so this looks like totally wasted motion. I excluded that drive and things are now much quieter. Hooray!

comment can .webloc file icon show a useful web page preview?
Very cool, thanks! No worry that practical use requires a bit more work; I'll probably want to tweak it anyway. Added bonus: availability of source.

Interesting, thanks. I'm very leery of plug-ins that require additional plug-ins. (This one requires something called SIMBL). Not a lot about this plug-in on the Web and some of it is a bit discouraging. I guess I'll stick with Quicklook (per above).

Wow, no matter how much I explore MacOS, someone can always tell me about more cool features. In this case, Quicklook. However, what I'd like to see is a static thumbnail of the window Quicklook generates. (Hmmm, does Quicklook fetch the current page content or use a cached version?)
