comment WindowServer high CPU on Yosemite
This was my issue as well. Crash plan and little snitch both draw to the menu a lot. Disabling the animations helped.

comment Is it possible to open a new space with the keyboard?
I am aware of all of these options. The question is asking how to do this with a keyboard shortcut.

Changed it. That is the way I would have done it anyway.

I do have renter's insurance, so theft from my home would be covered. I don't think that renter's insurance would cover me if I drop it in my house. You said "call my insurance company," but I don't really have a company beside my renters and auto insurance. Have you insured your Apple in some way?

Apple care only extends the warranty, if you drop your computer and it doesn't turn on... you are up the creek =/
