comment Do computers slow down as they age?
Ironically, my most reliable optical drive is the tray drive on my eMac. Much better than any more recent slot drives, and my Air doesn't have an optical drive.

I find this so hard to believe. Could my senses deceive me this much?!? Processors don't process slower when they are older?

comment Does daisy chaining FireWire 800 and 400 cause all devices to use 400 speeds?
@AdamDavis, do you have any sources on this? I ask because I've read your position on a number of web sites, but I've also read quite a few people claiming their personal testing shows that FW400 anywhere in the chain slows the whole chain to FW400 speed.

comment Does daisy chaining FireWire 800 and 400 cause all devices to use 400 speeds?
A canonical answer to this would be a good thing; I've found many posts on various tech discussion web sites asserting both sides of the argument, claimed to be backed up by personal testing.

comment What functionality of iOS can be accessed from the lock screen?
It shouldn't produce a bunch of partial answers; a good answer will include a canonical listing (with sources) of what can be accessed from the iOS lock screen. There is a right answer to this question.

comment Is there a similarly fast alternative to Crtl + Shift + Eject for new Macbook that lack eject keys?
Answers on Ask Different need to be more than just a link. It's okay to include a link, but please summarize or excerpt it in the answer. The idea is to make the answer stand alone.

This isn't an answer (which is why I'm posting it as a comment), but in general, Microsoft does not maintain feature parity across the Mac and Windows versions of its software. It is quite possible that this is one of those features. If you want a standardized way to create math documents, LaTeX, of course, is the same across platform :-/ (which I'm guessing isn't quite what you're looking for)

Ah. To try to duplicate its functionality without installing it. Makes sense.

Welcome to Ask Different! There are a few questions in here, but it's hard to figure out what you are asking. Additionally, your question needs some cleaning up. This has the potential to be edited to become a good question, and if it does, we can re-open it, but first you need to clarify just what "dilemma" you face, and what advice you are looking for.
