comment Did Mavericks solve the Safari Airplay delay?
It probably has more to do with WiFi speeds than the Mac OS X version you are running. What is your complete signal chain? What model Macintosh are you using? What model Airport Express? What is it connecting to, a television, another Mac, something else? Are you using WiFi g or WiFi n on the Mac, on the Airport Express, and on the target device? Have you tried connecting your Mac to the AirPort Express using an Ethernet cable rather than WiFi? That will increase your video streaming throughput dramatically.

comment Difficulties opening PDFs in Preview
Could it be that your system is running out of RAM? How much RAM do you have? When you encounter this problem with Preview, do you also have a lot of other applications open and running and displaying other documents? How about pages in Safari or another web browser? The more you have going on, the less RAM your system has to work with. Do you go for days at a time without restarting your Mac? This affects available RAM as well.

Unfortunately this is no help. She has a 12MB address book database but since she upgraded to Mavericks recently, it only shows about 15 addresses. It appears to have failed weeks before I got here.

Yes, of course , the contacts are on the On My Mac but there are no preferences to set. And Mavericks automatically re-enables iCloud in Contacts every time you restart, and some local cache shows up in Contacts, even though I have unplugged the Ethernet cable.

My hand-migration seems to have failed. See my comment on the answer below.

Great. I have found the folder. But Contacts will not import the 16MB of files for this user. I can copy the entire folder from the backup to the new installation, but Contacts shows the same 15 addresses no matter what I do. With 16MB of data in there, there must be hundreds of addresses. What am I overlooking?

comment Are there third-party mechanical keyboards that strictly have the Apple layout?
As for "STRICTLY" Mac layout, you can easily train your fingers to accommodate slight departures in design for a third-party keyboard. I've been using Macs since 1987 but I have not used an Apple-brand keyboard in the last twenty years. I have easily adapted to many different brands of third-party keyboard over the years.

@dwightk, the answer is "No". The low key-cap design as on modern Apple keyboards has a very short key-travel and involves a membrane technology. Clicky mechanical keys or "buckling spring" designs are by definition the older, long-throw design that goes back to the IBM keyboards of the 1970s, and feel more like the older generation electric typewriter keyboards such as the legendary IBM Selectric. Many fast touch-typists prefer this design, which I believe is the point of the original question.

What is the point of your question? If you want something completely exactly the same as an Apple keyboard, then why not simply purchase an Apple keyboard? Any third-party keyboard is not going to be a clone of Apple's keyboard; it is going to be engineered by the manufacturer to incorporate ideas that they think are better than Apple's, or perhaps less costly than Apple's design, so they will be slightly different in various ways.

comment My MacBook Air won't charge
What is the year and model number of your MacBook Air? If it is convenient, you should take it to an Apple Store to find out about the cost of battery replacement.
