Chax with Lion: downgrading iChat to 5.0.3? have you tested? I'm pretty sure their compatibility status would be different for every app. |

iMac extremely slow suddenly If there was a heat issue, wouldn't the fan be screaming? It's not. How can I check the temperature? Perhaps from single user mode, as that is the only thing tha works reliably. One time it was still booting after 18 hours. |

iMac extremely slow suddenly I have swapped the hard drive and it's still slow, booting from recovery partition is also slow, so this isn't it. |

iMac extremely slow suddenly I tried reseating the chips. They're a different type to others I have around so I can't replace them. I guess I could try just plugging one in at a time... closest authorised Apple repair ahop has a $150 diagnosis fee :-( |

OSX Server File Sharing - Allow users to change password? You might get a better answer a Server Fault, as any linux tool for this will work on a mac. I suspect the feature you saw a long time ago has beem dropped, these days OS X server is just a light wrapper around UNIX, Apple has decided not to try and compete with Microsoft as they always did a far better job anyway. You need ro be able to write scripts to do anything custom on a UNIX server, I could put one together in an hour or so. |

OSX Server File Sharing - Allow users to change password? The options are as good or better than any other UNIX platform. Microsoft is the only company in the world that offers GUI tools for this stuff as far as I know. |

Disable mounting Internal Macintosh HD at boot Is there any alternative to running diskutil to find the UUID? It fails with an error about dependencies missing and says not to use it in single user mode. My machine is not bootable, even from an external hard drive, because the internal one causes the entire system to beachball almost continuously. |

Disable mounting Internal Macintosh HD at boot Unplugging the internal hard drive is not "easy", that's a 30 minute process requiring suction cups and torx screwdrivers and voiding your warranty. |
