I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.
I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.
I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

Have Automator add original path to Spotlight Comment for a file when moving to the trash @ShaneHsu - I found the Put Back option. It works fine for individual files that were deleted, but not if their parent folder was deleted (and Put Back isn't available for parent folders). Anyway, sometimes I might want to Put Back based on where the file was originally (e.g. I deleted a bunch of files out of a folder in one go and may want to restore only a few of them). |

Locate empty folders within a folder It turns out that the folders have some hidden files in, so they aren't returned at all with this command :-( |

Locate empty folders within a folder That finds empty directories in the current working directory, but not empty directories inside it. How do I make this recursive? |

OS X software for copying from Windows File Shares I wasn't aware of an OOB box method that will do that with a Windows File Server. I'd accept an answer that gave the OOB method. |

Using iMac in Home Cinema Hi - assuming that "1. I don't see why that would be necessary" is in answer to the question about blanking the screen on the iMac. Necessary, because if you can't blank the iMac screen then an annoying amount of light will be visible from the iMac screen when viewing from a projector in the same room. Like being sat in the cinema next to someone who is constantly checking their bright smart phone... |
