comment How does TRIM Enabler work?
How do you even find this stuff?! If I run TRIM Enabler to "patch" my IOAHCIBlockStorage file and then lock it (with admin privileges), would I suffer any adverse effects? Sure I wouldn't be able to support the new PCIe SSDs (which my MacBook doesn't even have), but would it prevent any future updates from reversing the patch?

comment Why can't I put some file in the trash?
If they can't figure it out, they can always comment or a more in-depth step by step tutorial. It's really not that bad, even for casual users.

comment Headphone jack/logic board broken?
Shorting pins across an audio jack isn't that bad. Headphones by nature have a VERY low resistance, so they're not much different from the tinfoil.

Yes, but a reconsideration of this axiom resolves the question entirely.

comment Does Avast noticeably affect battery life?
""The wireless web test measures battery life by wirelessly browsing 25 popular websites with display brightness set to 50%." That's the type of thing you state in your question… I guess I didn't mean "impossible", it just requires the data that you just gave me. I suggest you append this to your question.

comment Does Avast noticeably affect battery life?
That would be an impossible measurement to make. If I told you it uses 10% more battery, is that with the display brightness all the way up or at minimum? WiFi on or not? There are too many factors that effect battery life for a concrete answer to be possible. As I stated in my answer, I strongly recommend against the use of such software unless you frequently exchange files with other PCs. It's a waste of system resources no matter how you slice it.

"I don't have backups!" If even you don't take yourself seriously, why should others?

comment is it worth it to install SSD internally, instead of using USB3?
Specs like data transfer speed often give a misrepresentation of real world performance of the interface. The latency on USB3 can be an order of magnitude higher than on SATA3, which makes a huge difference when your dealing with generally randomly access data (such as boot files, application files, etc.)

Other than the low (2GB) RAM, the 2008 MacBooks should (from my first hand experience) work perfectly fine with Mountain Lion =/

Well it depends. The initial performance hit isn't too great. I always try to avoid clearing caches unless there's an immediate problem at hand.
